10 Steps to Explore, Engage & Experience The Magic of Twitter

Twitter is a powerful way of networking, building contacts, and sharing information twenty-four hours a day. Twitter provides you the opportunity to engage in effective relationship building conversations using 140 characters that can provide exposure for yourself and your business as you engage with others. Twitter allows you to talk business in one breath, and personal in the next, communicating your message with people across the globe. Twitter is a micro-blogging service (short posts) that enables you to send and read messages known as “tweets” via mobile texting, instant messaging, and the Web. Twitter can be accessed anywhere there is internet access, a Wi-Fi connection, including a cell phone.

There are those that do not understand communication over the internet, and think that social media has no meaning or function. This is not true! Build a social media brand and show your personality so that people can feel like they know you is possible.  As you develop relationships you will be able to promote your events or your business since people buy products from those they know, like, and trust. With your tweets you have the ability to strategically market your product, collaborate with others and do the same for them. Remember that it takes seven to ten attempts to create a strong relationship in order to build trust. So go slowly, enjoy your experience, be patient and you will succeed.

Quick Twitter Tips That Create Magic for Business Relationship Building

    1. Always be yourself!  Tweet every day if you can as it will allow people to see get to know you, that you are not just all about business.  Remember, the give to get principal. It’s not all about you.

    2. Include a good photo, website, and short bio of yourself on your Twitter profile.

    3. Engage with the Twitter community with “good morning” and “good night” messages. Follow with a conversation and ask questions to grow your audience (followers). It’s important to avoid being seen as someone who just self promotes and is all business.

    4. Choose who you follow, some of the big names, those who are in your niche market, and active people on Twitter. You do not have to follow everybody that follows you.

5 Send personal messages (tweets), engage with them to introduce yourself to generate conversation, do not auto-tweet. Keep in mind that every tweet counts; no one cares what you had for dinner, breakfast or what time you woke up so don’t  tweet things that are a waste of time and have no purpose or significance.

    6. Ask them to schedule an appointment to speak with them, have a virtual cup of coffee over the telephone in order to build the relationship personally.

7 Going the extra mile to help others. RT (Retweet) messages that you have opened the links for, no spam is contained, and good content is valuable to your followers to read.

    8. Show your appreciation by saying thank you to people who mention you on Twitter or Retweets your posts.

9 Blend Your Tweets and Retweets, as you share information, website or blogs of others that you read, like and trust. Market your latest offers but blend them within other tweets. Retweet others like you want to be retweeted!

    10. Give Twitter love: ReTweet other people’s stuff more than you do your own.  It’s a great way to widen your network, and build relationships with other professionals.

Take a few minutes each day, watch the tweets of others.  Enjoy your experience networking on Twitter, it is empowering fun and easy!  Promoting yourself building relationships and engaging with others offers a unique experience that years ago was impossible so take advantage.  A Twitter experience is magical when you get comfortable and you will soon be in a position to collaborate with anyone or everyone. It’s amazing who and what you can find on Twitter as you interact, network and meet new people.  Twitter is a truly powerful resource. Stick with it and before you know it you’ve developed a global network of incredible business contacts and long lasting friendships.
