Fantasy Baseball Week 1 | In the Eyes of The Optiongirl
Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 6:00AM
Did you know that The 2012 Major League Baseball season has started? Opening Day occurred with the Mariners and Athletics splitting a two-game series in the Tokyo Dome. Baseball season Opening Night is April 4, with the Cardinals and Miami Marlins to play Florida’s new ballpark, Six more teams having their opening day April 5th.
The fun and challenge of fantasy baseball Is about to begin. Fantasy teams have been drafting daily. I took some gambles taking some prospects that will start in the minors and also looked for flexibility. I have a very strong pitching staff and will look to trade as the season moves along. (See my team below).
There are teams with injuries and strategic moves are being made daily. It’s very important early in the season to keep calm, be patient, and don’t cut your players on your fantasy team too soon. This is one of the most common mistakes of the game. Some players start off slow and others come out on fire.
How are you feeling about your team that you drafted? Have you noticed that your team’s batting average is not as high as you expected and you can use more home run power? It’s never too early to make a plan and start planting some seeds with your other league owners. If you drafted players that normally hit 290- 300 and are hitting 220 or 230, believe, have confidence they will come around. Maybe you find yourself with not enough stolen bases or enough flexibility and you are strong at a position or have drafted too many centerfielders like I did. It’s ok to propose a trade to an owner who might need one. I do not recommend trading one player for one player. I normally like to give three players for 2 so I will have room to use my expertise and pick up a player from the waiver wire (A pool of players that go undrafted and are not on any team in your league) Remember when you offer a trade you must give to get. If you do not meet the needs of your opponent there is no reason for your opponent to even think about the trade offered let alone accept the trade.
