“If you show people the problems and you show people the solutions,
they will be moved to act” ~Bill Gates
One of the best lessons life has taught me is to take advantage of challenges and turn them into opportunities. It was only four short years ago when I was thriving and alive on the outside, but was filled with pain on the inside. Personally, I was overwhelmed and also mentally exhausted from a nasty stock market that left me worried and full of fear. After feeling beaten for so long I soon realized that change was necessary and finally made the decision to invest in myself. This one decision pulled me out of the rut I was in and since then has benefited me, both personally and professionally. It was this one decision that opened my eyes to find inspiring coaches that supported, encouraged and challenged me to grow and think big.
Through all the lessons learned and the challenges faced, I’ve always known how important it was to push through to discover my passion. All the hard work has paid off and with the help of a great group of wonderful people it is now that I am able and also excited to share the launch of my new book, ”Journey to Wealth” - A Practical and Mindful Approach to Growing and Sustaining Financial Well-Being on October 24!
Writing Journey to Wealth has been one of the best experiences in my life. After focusing so much on health and wellness for the majority of my online career, I decided to take a new path and commit to the long term project of writing a book on money. My posts are mostly comprised of topics discussing weight loss, healthy choices and business but rarely articles on money. I first began blogging writing about sports (my passion since childhood) and avoided discussing anything related to finances or investing because I was fearful of stepping out there as an expert in a field I’ve worked in my entire adult life. It was through the coaching process where I learned of my serious block when it came to writing about money. Upon this realization I soon began giving my all in overcoming my fear of writing about the one topic I can truly say, with my 31 years of corporate experience, that I know like the back of my hand. The thought of writing a book on money seemed like such an impossibility. So much so that my heart would race at even the thought of putting my own thoughts and opinions out there for the world to see but the time had come to move past what I learned as a weight loss champion and move into a new era of Bonnie Gortler, the Inspired Wealth and Well-Being Coach.
After listening beyond the words I was expressing, De Harris, my web designer suggested for me to write a book on money. The moment she changed the blog navigation tab from the word ‘Money’ to ‘Wealth’, I instantly felt a sense of freedom. I gained confidence, self esteem and I discovered I had a burning desire to write and share my message with the world. I did not want investors to make the same mistakes that I had made. I discovered I truly want to help take the stress and mystery out of investing; and to also help investors feel more comfortable with money and how it works. So many people have lost their life savings from nasty declines within the stock market. I would like everyone to learn why these things happen and how to better prepare as they rebound from the unavoidable ups and downs of the market.
Through all of this ‘self discovery’ I would learn too that when the student is ready the teacher appears. This is even truer in my experience. I was never a writer; a business letter was a challenge and I never imagined I would be writing my own book. With the guidance of coaches, I would learn with a positive attitude, a winning mindset, and a never give up attitude - you can do anything that you set your mind to!
It was my mentor, De, who helped me to begin my book and with the help and support of great friends/colleagues I found a system of organization that helped bring my book to life. I would learn from my coaching sessions with Kimyon Zari to devote time each day (don’t look for hours at a time since minutes may be all you have) to completing my book. Through more focus and one-point attention (one huge lesson) I learned from my coaching sessions with Gena Livings the importance of health and the necessity to make it a life priority. With Pat Barone I had the breakthrough of permanent weight loss and how to do it the healthy way, slow and steady. The new found awareness that health and wealth are equally as important to a well balanced life gave me the strength and confidence I would need to keep moving. So I continued the journey of writing even though others weren’t too happy with my dedication. Whether it was early a.m. or late at night I would do a little at a time-chipping away knowing all along it wouldn’t be easy. I was on a mission and continued to feel a positive shift while progress was being made. I was soon exposed to a book writing training course given by my new mentor/business coach, Dr. Sheri K. Hoff, whose joyful energy and guidance was the piece of the puzzle that motivated me to keep going. Wow, again, the student was ready. I was intrigued and smiled. More webinars, courses and group trainings were all part of the process in making “Journey to Wealth” a reality. There was no stopping me now!
Soon enough Sheri, my business coach, took over. She was my leader, full of inspiration encouragement and I could feel her passion and energy combine with my desire to write a book. From the first moment on, I knew ”Journey to Wealth” would be all I ever imaged. What I learned from the entire experience was that my knowledge wasn’t the question, it was more about overcoming my lack of belief, my own blocks regarding money, and even a lack of focus that was keeping me stalled. Once I had this ‘AHA’ moment, the vision of sharing my knowledge with the world took over and we now have ”Journey to Wealth”.
If there is anything I can leave you with, it is the thought to never lose sight of your ‘You Can Do It’ attitude. It takes a willingness to make small changes and do the best you can every day. Even the smallest action steps add up and are enough to make a true difference in your life. Make the decision to take action. Feel the fear and do it anyway. YOU can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. Get started NOW and do something that you thought of as impossibility. I’m living proof that perceived obstacles are tests of your determination and never truly stand in your way.
There are some great gifts during the October 24th launch of “Journey to Wealth” - A Practical and Mindful Approach to Growing and Sustaining Financial Well-Being. Thank you in advance for all of your love and support. I’m so grateful!
