Relax and Create Fun While on Vacation

Are you finding it a challenge to relax? What happens to you when you take a vacation? Do you immediately relax, or does it take a few days to let go of those worries, clear your mind, and unwind? Over the years, my experience has changed for the better. It no longer takes me several days or more to ease into vacation mode; I have learned how to relax and fully embrace my time away, as can you. Due to this change, I’ve reaped many benefits for my health and well-being and returned home fully rested, having thoroughly enjoyed my vacation.

Fortunately, I’ve come to appreciate my time off. Time away with family and friends is something I treasure, and in July, we went to Aruba, our home away from home. The island is about twenty-one miles long and located in the Southern Caribbean Sea. We stayed at the Casa Del Mar Resort, the perfect place to take a much-needed break and have fun.

My mom and dad loved the island of Aruba and shared the experience with me as a child. What is remarkable is how my time away turned into the unexpected. Little did I know I would fall in love with Aruba and create many lasting friendships over the years.

Developing a relationship with people who become true friends is a unique experience and should be cherished. Finding someone you can trust may take some time, but when you’ve forged a bond, the journey becomes all the more meaningful, and over time, as it gets stronger, it becomes more beautiful. For example, one of my friends whom I met on vacation has become a tried-and-true walking partner. We talk as we walk, supporting and lending an ear despite not living near one another. We share stories, listen to one another, and keep each other accountable to move our bodies while brightening each other’s day by talking about good times and not dwelling on the negative. I always feel happy and reenergized when we talk. It’s a special experience when you reconnect in person after talking on the phone during the year. When we met up during vacation, we hugged one another and smiled.

As I mentioned before, years ago, while on vacation, I would become easily distracted and didn’t know how to relax. However, now it is much easier for me to shift from work into a vacation mindset. I’m surprised and now realize all that I missed before understanding how important it is to free yourself from the daily responsibilities of life and allow yourself to unwind and have fun when doing what you love.

In addition to changing my mindset, I also added an activity that has become one of my favorite treats for my self-care during vacation was to attend the chair yoga class offered by the resort. My classes took place within an area with beautiful trees shared with other women, and the last few classes were one-on-one. All I had to do was show up and let go. I had so much fun doing chair yoga with my friends and experiencing the tropical air while moving to soothing music for the soul.

What is chair yoga? Chair yoga is a gentle form of exercise that benefits the body and mind and is done sitting on a chair or standing using a chair for support. Chair yoga is also a wonderful way to meet people in a relaxing environment. Yoga gives me a renewed sense of peace and tranquility, a new source of calm in my life. You will find that yoga is a low-impact exercise that will strengthen your body and calm your spirit. I highly recommend it, especially if you struggle with stress or find it difficult to relax.

  • The ability to relax from head to toe gives you peace as your mind relaxes.
  • It is a quick way to stretch your body to relieve tension and is healthier than reaching for food to comfort you.
  • It will increase your range of motion by opening your hips, moving your shoulders and neck and feels so good.
  • It benefits the body because it increases blood circulation and stimulates the elimination of body toxins.
  • Chair yoga improves feet, toes, hand and finger movements, muscle, and bone health.
  • Improves your balance, posture, flexibility, and mobility.

If you often find it hard to unwind during vacation, you might benefit from embracing the idea of taking a break so you can feel refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated, as well as benefit from committing to your well-being. If you have not taken yoga classes, you will be amazed at how enjoyable it is at home or on vacation.

Taking time off benefits your well-being, strengthens family bonds, and fosters new friendships. Make it a priority to add a vacation plan to your calendar now. It’s essential to strike a balance between work and dedicating time for yourself and your loved ones. When you take vacation time, new insights, thoughts, and ideas happen, and your spirit calms as your mind becomes clear. Remember, life’s most cherished moments often come from the simple joys of togetherness and relaxation. Embrace these moments, for they light up our lives in ways we often overlook.
