One of my favorite times of the year is the Jewish holiday called Chanukah also known as the Festival of Lights. Time moves by quickly. Our children have grown into wonderful young adults,  I’m so grateful and thankful our family keeps the tradition going each year getting together, sharing our love, and having fun celebrating Chanukah together.

Chanukah in 2017 starts at the sunset on December 12 and will continue for 8 days until the sunset on December 20th. Chanukah is a tradition to give young children gifts for eight nights.   As with other major Jewish holidays, candles are lit, appropriate blessings are made, followed by a festive meal with loved ones.

Wishing all of you who celebrate a very happy Chanukah.

Chanukah celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of purity over adulteration, of spirituality over materiality.

Chanukah Customs:

  • Eating foods fried in oil — latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (doughnuts)
  • Playing with the dreidel (a spinning top on which are inscribed the Hebrew letters nun, gimmel, hei and shin, an acronym for Nes Gadol Hayah Sham, “a great miracle happened there”);
  • Giving of Chanukah gelt, gifts of money, to children.

Enjoy this delicious recipe for Low-Fat Potato Latkes

Low-Fat Potato Latkes

  • 3 teaspoons vegetable oil, preferably canola
  • 2 pounds russet potatoes (about 4 or 5), peeled
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped red onion (about 1 medium onion)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose white flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 large egg white, lightly beaten

Set oven racks at middle and lower positions of the oven. Preheat oven to 450° F. Prepare 2 baking sheets by brushing with 1 teaspoon oil on each sheet.

Grate potatoes using hand grater or shredding blade of food processor. Place in a large bowl and add onions, flour, salt and pepper; toss to mix well. Add egg, egg white and remaining 1 teaspoon oil; toss to mix.

Drop onto prepared cookie sheets by the tablespoonful and press lightly to form cakes. Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown on the bottom. Flip latkes, switch position of baking sheets, and bake about 5 more minutes, or until golden brown.

Transfer to a platter, arranging browned-side up, and serve with no-fat sour cream or applesauce, or both. May be made ahead and stored overnight in fridge. Reheat at 350° F for 10 minutes. Makes about 24 latkes.

Tip: Use the grater attachment of a food processor to simultaneously grate both the potatoes and the onion. Set the shredded material in a colander over a bowl to catch the dripping liquid. When the grated potato-onion mixture stops squishing combine with the egg, egg white and remaining teaspoon of oil as above. Carefully pour out the liquid collected from under the grated potatoes and onions, taking care to save the white cake which has formed at the bottom of the bowl (the potato starch). Add this white stuff to the latke mixture and mix well. Complete the above recipe as written.

It’s been well-established by many successful entrepreneurs that intuition plays a crucial role in their success.

Steve Jobs, Sir Richard Branson, Oprah and Arianna Huffington …. among others have been quoted several times regarding intuition.

This is one of my favorites:

THE HARDSHIP IN CONNECTING AND RELYING ON INTUITION:

Yet despite the “understanding” that this is a necessary skill to succeed in business and life, few people take the time to immerse themselves into truly developing their intuitive gifts (unless they are of course healers or psychics).

But for the rest of us mortals, it appears like there’s something akin to: “yeah, yeah…that’s nice, but I need some REAL skills, I need some PRACTICAL skills” to grow my business.

Perhaps it feels like it’s such an abstract set of skills that we are unsure about HOW to develop them, HOW to practice or HOW to use them effectively in our business.

Our world is dominated by an over-abundance of masculine energy. The energy of yang is the energy of action, movement and getting things done. It’s the energy of manifestation and the masculine energy that we, Westerners, have come to revere so deeply.

This is the energy of action and results. What our entire economy is based on. We value “hard work”. We believe we must work hard in order to succeed and therefore if we want success the more we work, the more “exalted” we become in our minds.

There are so many common beliefs that cement this practice:

“No pain, No Gain”;

“Work now, Play later.”

“Money doesn’t grow on trees,”

“Early bird, gets the worm.”

And yet…consistent action, movement, and hard work are pointless if there’s no depth, no purpose and no integrated meaning behind our actions.

There’s also a point of diminishing results.

As a high-performance psychologist, one of the things we teach people is that there is this “Inverted U Theory”, which states that increases in effort and arousal will yield a performance increase…

Up to a certain point (ONLY), after which, further increases in effort and arousal will yield a DECREASE in performance. To the point that the harder you work, the worse results you will get.

As “old” as this theory and practical piece of knowledge is in our performance psychology field, it hasn’t actually permeated the everyday world.

People are STILL working as hard as they can, waving a flag of pride and martyrdom until they land in burnout or experience health consequences.

Then we have this “wake up moment”, but sadly, we don’t know HOW to do things differently, and as hard as we TRY…it’s difficult to circumvent well-established wiring and neuro pathways that “tell us” that hard work is the ONLY road to success.

So.HOW do we extricate ourselves from this merry-go-round?

How do we exit the fast train in which Gurus, exploit our doubts and sense of inadequacy by selling us on yet “another tactical skill” (webinars, live events, FB ads, you name it), that will keep us in this constant feedback loop of not-good-enough, overwork, overwhelm and burnout?

We need the balancing form of Feminine energy or yin. The RECEPTIVE, the intuitive and the loving, collaborative nature of this energy. It is an energy of depth, insight, wisdom, and magic.

The answer is simple in essence and complex in execution (which is why not more people are doing it.)

Yep. It’s that simple. The difficulty comes when our minds and egos get involved. And the smarter you are, the more you’ll struggle to listen and follow your intuition because you are so accustomed to relying on your cognition.

WHY IS INTUITION SO CRUCIAL IN BUSINESS?

When we can connect and use our intuition we are able to become more efficient and maximize the work we do.

In the most basic sense, intuition is about LISTENING…is about developing the listening skills to “hear” your Highest Guidance, but also to tune into your ideal clients and sense what do they need?

What would be most beneficial and valuable to them?

At what level would they be able/willing to invest in?

And if you can be perceptive enough to receive this information and KNOW what will be of most value, you will circumvent so much time, energy and frustration as you’d be tuned into what you need to provide.

With all the challenges life throws our way it can be difficult at times to remember that successfully living a healthy wealthy lifestyle is well within your grasp. In order to make your desired life possible you first need to be clear on your goals by determining what you want the end result to be. Then you put in a plan of action combined with healthy food choices with a consistent workout regime to enhance your overall well-being.

Dedication will go a long way when making the required adjustments to lead you on your path to success. Decide today to create within your life the necessary time to ensure your success. Don’t allow your busy schedule to stop you from taking care of yourself.  When it’s all in your hands, why would you not put yourself in the best position to feel good, be happy, and be a high-energy vibration? Once you do so you will attract the right people into your life and who will help you create the circumstances that support your goals. Remind yourself you deserve to be successful and to live the lifestyle you desire. See if you can find a minimum of 5 minutes a day to begin the process and then build to 15-30 minutes from there. When I started my well-being journey almost 8 years ago, I was not in good shape, didn’t take great care of myself, was in a lot of pain, couldn’t walk one-half of a block, and didn’t know how to exercise. I rarely moved my body and focused so much on work that I neglected to take care of myself.  This changed when I found a coach who shared a wealth of information and opened a new way of life that included an exercise regimen along with healthy eating. The change has been phenomenal in my overall quality of life. I’m happier now, more focused and successful than ever before.

My biggest surprise from my well-being journey is how empowering exercise can be. My favorite exercises include riding a stationary bike and lifting weights. I also love the added feeling of inner strength that comes from doing pushups. 4. Write down 3 realistic goals. Be specific with a date you will complete them by. This is crucial because it also gives you a visual reminder.

7 Easy Ways to Begin Your Healthy Habits:

  1. Start your day with a healthy breakfast.
  2. Get adequate rest. Create downtime to recharge your batteries. Take breaks during the day to re-energize.
  3. Surround yourself with people who inspire and you feel good around. Positive people are supportive and uplifting and have good energy which is contagious.
  4. Drink water. Water helps detoxify the body and will increase your metabolism and improve your digestive function.  Start by drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day.
  5. For those of you, who do not have an allergy to wheat; eat whole grain bread and cereals, brown rice pasta instead of white.
  6. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean meats.
  7. Eat fiber or protein-rich food throughout the day to maintain your energy levels and help you to feel full longer.

5 Habits To Avoid:

Avoid eating processed food full of pesticides, hormones or preservatives as much as possible.

  1. Limit white bread, pasta and starches (empty calories) having no value nourishing your body.
  2. Look at the labels to see how much salt and sugar is in the food you are buying. They are both very addictive. The more you have sugar and salt, the more you will want.
  3. Keep unhealthy junk foods away as far as possible. Avoid temptations if you can.
  4. Avoid soft drinks. Regular soda (1 can of coke) has a ton of sugar, 16 teaspoons. Diets soda has 0 calories but has artificial ingredients which are not healthy for you and will wreak havoc on your metabolism.

Improving your well-being starts with learning new habits which include healthy eating, exercising regularly and having plenty of fun along the way. As you embark on your well-being path, it will serve you well to remember that it is OK to ask others for help. We all need support and what better way to make big changes in your life than to reach out and open up to others who can help you in the process. You can do this by taking simple small steps on your journey and by finding your right balance so you can continue to feel good as you set yourself up for success. Explore and experiment until you find the right combination for you. Get started with a few easy healthy habits and when you see how good you feel you will be ready to add a few more. Start today because it’s those small victories that lead to incredible leaps of success that will ultimately create the healthy, lifestyle you desire.

Life is filled with twists and turns. Taking small actions toward what you want to achieve can create a new perspective on how you go about achieving your hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Have you or someone you’ve known ever challenged you to create goals beyond what you had imagined you could do? I know I have, and it’s made all the difference in my life! Goal setting is not rocket science but why go about it the same way over and over again? One of the best approaches I’m learning to help you succeed is to focus on improving your weaknesses so they become your strengths. You can do this by putting a plan in place that will keep things fresh and will help you feel renewed. Start by deciding that during this process of growth you are going to have fun, choose to be happy and do what your heart wants you to do. Life is short and can pass us by pretty fast so you want to take care of yourself and not spend too much time sweating the small stuff.

If you find yourself needing to pull yourself out of a funk, you can do so by changing your mindset and by shifting the language you use. It all starts with you accepting things for what they are.  Seeing life with all its ups and downs allows you to make better decisions about your plan of action. This small exercise will unlock your inner peace and is a great way to center your thoughts so you can begin finding the answers that will turn your weaknesses into new strengths, and also allow you to enjoy each day. 

When I started on my well-being journey I never imagined what an impact a change in perspective could be. The power to believe, added with simple consistent action steps has lead me to discover new strengths which had been hidden from my view.  The writing was never my strong point, math was. I didn’t even have to write a business letter in my corporate job, and my boss would put together the proposals to prospective clients so I didn’t get much practice. I do remember as a child that I did love writing letters to my teachers, friends, and family thanking them for their love and support.

As I grew life changed, I found other interests, that didn’t include writing.  A breakthrough appeared when one of my coaches gave me the assignment to write a poem. I wrote back to her expressing my apprehension with a big “Are You Kidding Me?” She wrote back and said, no she was not kidding and that I could do it. Yikes! I remember the fear and worry that filled my spirit. It was crazy that my coach had more belief I could write a poem than I did in myself. Instead of saying “I can’t” (one of my favorite answers before I started coaching), I dug deep and found the courage to move beyond my comfort zone and I started to write.  

Little did I know how much fun the process would be. It has opened up a new set of possibilities both personally and professionally. I learned when you find the courage to do something and continue to do it you gain a sense of confidence that spills over into all areas of your life. When I grow hesitant about trying something beyond my comfort zone, I do my best to remember back how fear used to fill me and how the flood of overwhelm would be so strong it would leave me paralyzed. Then I remind myself how I overcame all of that by finding the courage within myself to push through. This is something that has helped me time and time again. We all need a bit of encouragement and to help you make the shift take a moment and read my poem The Power of Inner Peace is Within Reach. My hope is you will realize all you can accomplish by changing your old way of thinking so you will explore new opportunities.

Putting myself out there in such a way was quite a challenge, especially since I knew that writing was not a strength I possessed. It was five years ago when I wrote that poem and had the courage to share on my blog. It taught me a valuable lesson in trusting myself and in the process of cultivating my untapped abilities. It goes to show you the power of how one thing can lead into another so that you can grow into who you are meant to be. Which, by the way, later on, another seed was planted by my mentor, when she said to me “you have a book in you.”  What? Writing a poem was such stretch that I laughed at the idea of writing a book. It was only with the support of my coach and working on having a positive mindset that I was able to discover that there really was a book in me when I published “Journey to Wealth”.  It took time and plenty of revisions but I’m proud to say it’s published and available on Amazon. Who knew? I didn’t, that’s for sure! Don’t doubt yourself. Your thoughts and perspective make a huge difference in what you do, Unlock the strength inside of you and take the steps needed so you can move forward today with a healthy outlook. 

How to Turn Your Weaknesses into Strengths

  1. Realize the impact of attitude on life. Raise your awareness to what your weakness might be and accept them, instead of going to the place of frustration.
  2. Ask someone you can trust for help that has done what you want to do.
  3. Start with doing one simple step. Practice to gain confidence and get better and better each day.
  4. Don’t take criticism or feedback personally. Not everyone is going to like what you do. Ask yourself what you can learn from the feedback that has been given to you.
  5. Change your thought process to think solutions. Focus on how to fix the problem, not on the obstacle. Don’t stay in a place of anger and keep focusing on what is negative, focus on what is positive
  6. Believe in Yourself. You are ready for unexpected challenges that arise. Think back to those challenges you already have handled in your life.
  7. Learn from your past mistakes, don’t beat yourself up, press on.

Start today by doing something you have never done before. The time has come for you to break through your challenges and gain a new perspective that will empower your new way of thinking. Do this by creating a plan and make it simple enough for you to follow. Revise as needed so you will stick with it. When you put in the effort to master a new skill, you will become excited again. The energy and revitalization you feel inside as you chart a new course in your life will become the foundation that will enable you to do even more. An opportunity exists at every turn. Take advantage of it. Create change in your life with small actions steps that move you closer to increased wealth and well-being. Living inside your comfort zone is not a good option if you want to find the fulfilled happiness you deserve. When you start to turn your weaknesses into strengths there are brighter days ahead so you can experience all richness life has to offer.

Investing in YOU is something to do all year long, not just for a holiday, or a week or just once in a while. Yes this might be challenging sometimes, but in the long run taking care of your health and well-being helps everything and everyone around you. I hope you enjoyed the holiday season being with family and friends. A new year approaches and a new beginning. Keep taking small strategic steps toward your goals and desires. Doing more doesn’t always make things better, and you will be surprised how relaxing life can be once you begin to focus on what you are passionate. Tranquility is defined by Dictionary.com as a “quality or state of being calmness, peacefulness, quiet, and serenity.” This is exactly what I wish for all of you!

Did you ever notice how some days are super busy and other days are quiet and peaceful?  Sometimes you may even feel a little anxious and uncertain. Wouldn’t it be great if you could jump start your day on your terms and be full of energy and unstoppable happiness? You can have this once you decide to create a real change in your life with some simple action steps that will bring you to the next level and beyond. To follow are some systematic steps toward a lifestyle of peace and tranquility as you move ever closer to successfully doing what you want to do.

Easy Steps To Improve Your Well-Being With More Well-being-this-way1Tranquility and Less Stress

  • Start your day an hour earlier and finally create some private time for you. Once you do so you will be pleasantly surprised just how much you  get done during this peaceful time of the day. Mix it up a bit and add some of your favorite music while enjoying the beauty around you. What a great way to start your day!
  • Choose something that you like to do and that you are passionate about. This could be writing, prayer, meditation, or even exercise. It doesn’t matter the activity as long as it’s whatever you like to do and will shift your thoughts into a more positive frame of mind. (I love my time for writing, exercise, and researching information about fantasy sports with music in the background)
  • Do less. I’m sure you have heard of the K.I.S.S. principle- Keep it simple stupid. Do you use this principle? If not, why? Stop now and make the decision to remove one item that you do often and are not getting the results you desire, and simplify it. By using this principle you will get more done, be happier and less stressed.
  • Set goals for 3 months, 6 months and a year. Enjoy the journey. Pick one to start working on in the short term that will move you towards your longer-term goal. Choose one thing at a time, focus on it, and make it happen.
  • Create a morning and evening routine to start and end your day on a positive note.
  • Empty your E mail inbox and clear your desk regularly. This will help you if you are feeling overwhelmed.
  • Respond to others without reacting. Raise your awareness to your surroundings. If someone says or does something to you that you don’t like, say and do nothing. Count to 10 before you respond. If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t!
  • Be kind and compassionate. Be thoughtful of how others feel. Think about what the other person might be going through. Don’t judge them. Remember there are two sides to every story.
  • Be patient, kind, not hard on yourself.  If you had a little too much to eat during your day, or at a party, don’t beat yourself up. This will get you nowhere fast. Give your body some love, create time into your schedule and go for a walk. Clear your mind from the stress and think positive thoughts.
  • Move your body. Exercise. See if you can make this a daily habit. Get into the habit. Start simply with 5 minutes each day. Expand the time with what works for you. Exercise not only helps you lose weight but it could make you feel so much better like it has done for me.
  • Find your passion. Do what you love to do regularly. Let your creativity shine through. You will be happier, more tranquil and less stressed.
  • Be held accountable. Find a coach or partner who will support you to on your journey in life.
  • Review and write down your financial plan to simplify your finances as you focus on growing your wealth.

You really do have the power to jump start your day and be full of energy and unstoppable happiness! All it takes to get started is choosing one action step and following through with focused attention. You will create real change once you start. Remember to believe in yourself because you can do anything that you set your mind to. Let today be the day that you make the decision that will lead you toward less stress and more tranquility as your dreams become reality.

Will you be in the same place as you are five years from now? Are you happy and enjoying your life? Focus on what you desire as if it is yours now. Visualize your success and have positive thoughts.

Experiencing challenges teaches you many invaluable lessons.   The number of times you succeed is in direct proportion to the number of times you fail and keep trying. Don’t give up.  Doubts and fears might pop up however they are temporary obstacles.

Be persistent. Focus on one step at a time to reach your goal. You will have a great feeling when you successfully meet the challenge. All great achievements require time, endurance, and a push to get through to move towards your goals.

Surround yourself with others who support you and are positive and avoid the people who give off negative energy or put you down. Openly share your talents with others.

You don’t need to know all your answers in advance.  Have a clear idea of the goal you desire to reach. Take one step at a time and be patient with yourself. Once you muster up the courage to begin, you’ll find the courage to succeed.  If you can believe it you can achieve it.

  • No matter the strategy you choose, it’s a good idea to measure the returns and risks compared to a benchmark index for comparison.
  • You could be over weighted in a particular sector under pressure.  It’s a good idea not to have too many of your eggs in one basket.
  • Review your investment to see if any individual stock, exchange traded fund, or bond position exceeds 5% of your overall portfolio.
  • Prepare your plan with an exit strategy to allow you to bounce back before something unforeseen occurs.
  • When altering a security keep the whole portfolio in mind.
  • Individual stocks are volatile; you can make money fast or lose money quickly.
  • If you are investing in individual bonds review the credit rating to see they are good quality bonds.

It’s crucial that you set clear goals and objectives for your success.  Keep an eye on your portfolio so that you will know what is or isn’t performing well.  Be ready, flexible, willing, and prepared to make a change when and if you are feeling stressed by about your investments. When was the last time that you did something different to increase your knowledge to grow personally and professionally as you moved out of your comfort zone? What would it be like to take steps towards fulfilling your dreams, expanding your growth, and to begin living the lifestyle you desire? It’s normal to feel fear when you try something new. Recently I had an incredible four days traveling to Colorado by myself (a real stretch for me) to attend a 16 hour coaching/training event with my coach Sheri Kay Hoff while also incorporating a visit to meet the Schwab trading team in person that I work with in my corporate job. I wanted to use the time to further develop our relationship and also enhance my knowledge of the computer operation for placing of orders for trading thereby learning first hand how this technology could benefit my clients. What a great experience and I will remember it always. After a full day at Schwab I went back to the hotel and had dinner with a friend, and then rested up for my upcoming 2 days of training.

What attracted me to Sheri’s coaching/training event was my desire to further master my inner game. I feel it’s important to have a strong mental mindset. When your inner game is strong you are confident and can make a difference in the lives of others. When done right there is also a feeling of being unstoppable. Being around like minded individuals also helps in keeping you on your toes. What I enjoyed most were the exercises and coaching methods shared by Sheri during the session. Each were impactful and created energy shifts that caused so many breakthroughs.

Sheri and Bonnie 2014The theme of the event was “Be the Inspiration”. The conference guests were all amazing. The environment felt safe, everyone was fully engaged and committed to working through whatever was holding them back. They were open, vulnerable and shared their heart. It was a weekend of community, planning, and expansion. People shared skills and talents that had been buried. Periodically we would all be in a circle put our hands together and say “Be the Inspiration” How empowering! I could feel the connection we had with one another when saying the words. There is an untapped power that comes to life when we really connect with one another. Who have you inspired lately? Take a moment and call a friend just to share some encouraging words and put a smile on their face. You will definitely lift their spirit and discover that yours will be lifted too.

Breaking through your barriers can leave you feeling empowered like never before. You will find as you share in the breakthroughs of others you can’t help but feel enlightened by the entire experience. I had quite a few of these breakthrough moments myself; but the highlight that I treasure was when I faced my fear of public speaking. I stood up in front of the room and read a poem to the group called “She Let Go” (by Rev. Safire Rose which I’ve shared below). May it inspire you the way it has inspired me!

When I was called on to share my poem I was full of fear and could feel the butterflies in my stomach, and despite these overwhelming feelings I did it anyway. I went up said a few words first that I thought would enhance the presentation; however, I received feedback that this was not the case. I was asked to go back to my seat and do it again, but this time go right into the poem. What a great and powerful lesson taught by Sheri. The energy when I did the reading the second time was electrifying! I was truly inspired by the moment and know someday soon I will do even more speaking.Sheri denver sunset 2014

We all should all feel the fear and learn to do it anyway. I am now re-energized by having had time away, in meeting with my coach and business associates, and also in making new friends. It’s difficult to put into words how seeing the mountains, the sunsets, and embracing change was so soothing to my soul. It is an experience that will forever keep me moving beyond my comfort zone.

She Let Go

She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.

She let go of the fear.  She let go of the judgments.  She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.  She let go of the committee of indecision within her.  She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.

She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go.  She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go.  She let go of all of the memories that held her back.  She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward.  She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.

She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.

She didn’t analyze whether she should let go. She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter. She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment. She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.

No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.

There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was, and it is just that.

Ask yourself what is holding you back from going after your dreams?  Decide you are going to take a few minutes  now to do one important goal on your list that you have been avoiding.
