Look around you and you see that Facebook is most popular, however it was Twitter that changed my life and how I communicate on the web. Twitter is easy to learn and you can get started with a new account in less than 5 minutes. You quickly feel the magic as you begin to engage with others within this truly powerful platfom. Twitter is a one place where you can create on-line friendships and build life long relationships as you grow your business. It is simple and fun to use and is quite powerful by allowing you the opportunity to spread your message while establishing contacts with people from all over the world.   

How to Use Twitter as a Communication Tool

1) Communicate by Direct Messages – introduce yourself to your new followers and invite them to have a virtual cup of coffee with you after you engage with them. Once you establish the relationship ask for their contact information.  Down the road you might establish enough of a rapport to have a new client or even solidify a joint venture partnership.

2) Announce your new Blog Posts – The ability to tell the world who you are and establish your credibility is essential and is why having your own blog is valuable. Each time you make a new post on your blog use Twitter to let all your followers know. In seconds you can get blog traffic by tweeting a message about your post.

3. Make known your new product or program – Tweet the link on Twitter, and watch your message spread.  Give advanced notice of your announcement to your good connections so they can pass the word.

When you use social media, in most cases it is not necessary to spend thousands of dollars in marketing. Make people aware you are an expert, be willing to share, connect others to one another and enjoy the experience of social media. Create a plan, be helpful and provide information, tips, and share your knowledge. Spread kindness, have a positive attitude, and connect with others. Now is as good a time as ever to take the time and do a personal inventory on your accomplishments, desires and achievements that you would like to take place in your business. It’s good to reflect on your successes and items that were not as successful as they could be and take some action.  Build your momentum feel the positive energy that is inside and around you. Take responsibility, own up to your goals that you have created and follow through on your plan. Stop thinking about the hardships around you, how the economy might be doing or the high unemployment rate. Be active, be inspired and take action now in finding new prospects for your business while keeping keeping your existing clients happy. This can be done through effective communication. Being clear on both your needs and the needs of those you deal with can only help you to provde better service within your business. This type of clarity can only be achieved through effective communication.

Top 10 Effective  Communication Practices:

  • Find out, know what are the requirements of your customer.
  • Communicate with your customer. Send a survey and ask them where your business can help them.  How can you better serve their needs better?
  • Focus on what your customer wants by telling you in the survey you can serve them and accommodate their needs.
  • Dial the phone.  Contact your existing clients, keep build the relationship and get to know them on a personal level. Show them you genuinely care about them.  Your clients and potential clients in the future will do business with people they know like and trust.
  • E mail is a good tool to have and to use but don’t over do it.  Communicate with the client by picking up the telephone, find out the best way they would like to communicate with you. Be personal, the personal touch is a key to success and will make you stand out from somebody else
  • Be appreciative and thankful.  Follow up with them.   • Take time off to be with family and yourself. Choose someone who you trust to help you. They will appreciate, and feel good to support you, and do their best while you are away. Get the rejuvenation your mind body and spirit deserves after months of work.
  • Strengthedn your realationships with your client and you can have a stready stream of referrals which is your ideal prospect.
  • Your customer is the best lead for your business. Be confident, don’t fear rejection and be willing to ask.
  • Study your own financial statements. It’s great to rely on a bookkeeper or an accountant but it would be good for you to take the time to understand how your finances work.  Learn more about your expenses. Know if you have a high cancellation rate. Head off a problem before it will cost you your business.  Make a decision this is the year to understand more of your financial statements and learn more where your business stands for the future. It’s up to you to take responsibility to do what is necessary to be successful. Be kind to your self as well and take the time to celebrate your success. Networking group picEvery so often we need to expand our network so we can grow our business contacts. This  can be easier said than done. Here are some places to find like minded people and leads for your business.  

1. Groups: Chamber of Commerce:  BNI Group, LeTip, Toastmasters,  Rotary Club, Blitztime (On line Networking), Women’s Referral Services or Women’s Groups.

Toastmasters International is a personal development organization to help you become a better speaker and leader and meet many people at the same time.  Toastmasters host thousands of meetings all over the world as you network and enhance your personal and professional growth. 2. Magazines: Babies, New Moms, Holistic Health, Medical/Dental good places for health and wellness companies.

3. Charities: You can offer gift certificates, gift baskets or both. It’s always good to give and help someone else without expecting something in return. Tip: when you are doing baskets. It’s best to have a basket to raffle or survey to get names (leads). Ask for a phone number, so you can call. Do not give away samples, start charging a nominal amount for this attaches value to your sample.  This will help you to also keep your own expenses and reinforce the ‘I’m in business’ mindset.

4. Trade Shows: Fairs Health Fairs, Baby Expos, Bridal Shows, and Women’s Expos

5. Get involved with groups that interest you: Women’s Groups (offer to speak/give gift certificates) Churches, Temples, Sporting events, and Spiritual Groups

6.  Gyms, Fitness Centers – offer to do a free product presentation Set up a table, bring samples where people can try the product and ask for feedback. Where possible bring products that have immediate benefits that can be seen and the sale is more likely to occur.

NetworkingspeakingAre you finding this year a challenging one for your business? You’re not alone. Right now, it’s difficult for just about everyone but with a well thought out plan, a mega dose of desire, and a positive approach, success is possible for YOU! There are many options available when it comes to promoting your business with some being more effective than others but have you ever considered participating within a networking group? We’re talking about one that is comprised mainly of local professional men and women with the sole purpose of exchanging business ideas and gaining contacts? If not, consider the advantages since it is a low cost and effective way to grow your business.

Let me tell you, I’ve had some great experiences while networking in this way. Generally, such groups are comprised of about 30 or so members, each from a different profession, sharing practical advice and lessons learned as they establish trust with one another. What a terrific opportunity for a first hand referral as you sharpen your own saw while establishing valuable long term trust-worthy connections. Just think about the last time you needed something repaired in your home and the only source you had was either Yellow Pages or the Internet? It’s easy to be left out in the cold when you consider those options but just imagine having your own ‘database’ within a network of trusted professionals who can steer you in the right direction. Think too, about those same professionals talking to their contacts about you! This is the power of networking within the ‘right’ group and why an effective networking group will prove to be a valuable resource that keeps on giving. There are some real clues to consider in your quest for finding the perfect networking group. Below you will find some tidbits to guide you along the way. If you already belong to one maybe you will see something that will help yours reach the next level or simply add your comments below to extend this list.

Etiquette practices that can be found within most networking groups: 

  • Breakfast is included for members each week.
  • You are expected to be ethical, professional and experienced in your line of work.
  • Each business category is represented by one member and conflicts of interest are disallowed.
  • Attendance is a must for meetings. As we know everyone is busy and situations occur but you should consider to a rule with a maximum number of meetings that can be missed.
  • Members of the group give one qualified referral every week as if everybody works at giving referrals there will be more money for everyone.
  • Sponsor one or more new members within your first year
  • Each member once a quarter should visit someone’s place of business in the group while they are on the job to see what they actually do so you can better refer them.
  • A group holiday party which is part of your membership fee, a great time to bond, relax, and furthers your relationship with members. When you are at the party be social, visit as many members as you can.
  • Guests can be invited to have a free breakfast twice as they decide if they would like to join the group.
  • If two professionals show up the same week it is necessary to have a speak off between the people, with an answer to the question, Why should he or she be chosen to represent the group?
  • Have a board of three or four members more if the group is over 35, who decide if they are a viable candidate to join the group, mediate when there are disagreements which do happen, and they have the final say over all pertinent matters.
  • Many groups have their members speak for about 3 minutes depending on time constraints.  You will notice some members will find this to be uncomfortable as they are not public speakers and will need you support. What happens is that members learn to become better public speakers by participating within this exercise. This is also done by sharing your 60 second elevator pitch or commercial which will tell others who you are and what do you do.

The above guidelines are meant to give you some insight as to what to expect. They are not written in stone but you will see that the best ones have these elements in one form or another. Remember, the goal is to build relationships, give quality referrals, and attending meetings on a regular basis so as to become an effective networker. You have to believe in yourself as you extend your hand to your fellow networker as you give a sincere thank you that creates a win win situation. sevenAre you at a point where you want to be your own boss? Plenty of people are going this route now a days and starting your own business can be the perfect way to allow you to gain control over your life while providing the freedom you desire. I’ve been involved in the direct sales industry for a couple of years now. Let me tell you when the economy was strong it was hard to talk to people about direct sales or network marketing when their mutual funds were going up by 20% per year. Now things have turned around. Did you know in the most recent decade the stock market actually lost money? Most jobs are cutting back or paying their employees less and with investments falling short these days many are turning to the direct sales industry as an answer for their future security. With so many people eager to enter the direct sales market the question that often comes up is how do you succeed in a brand new field to which you have no working knowledge or experience. If this is your situation and you are in a place where you simply need answers please allow me to share with you a bit of information. If you desire to get ahead in today’s market, the time has arrived for you to to open your mind and take seriously this new opportunity for the future. Look around, there are plenty of people just like you who are searching for answers and different ways to find true long-term financial security.  The following are some more tips to help you on your way:

1. Have a positive attitude and be enthusiastic

See the positive in people. Develop a habit that looking for the positive and expect people to treat you in a positive way as well. Enthusiasm generates its own energy. People desire to be around positive people with a positive attitude and you will attract others who are like you.

2. Define your goals and make them realistic and attainable.

What do you desire to accomplish? Do you want a new car, home, or save for your children’s education. You can have whatever you desire, but you must desire it enough to do the things that have to be done to get it. Write your goals down on paper, for If  they are not written they are nothing more than a wish. Set a date for reaching your goal and make it fun.  If you fall a bit short of your goal, that’s Ok change your date and keep moving forward.

3. Plan your time and be organized 

An agenda is important for your discipline as a successful entrepreneur.   A schedule keeps you on task and structured which is very necessary when you are your own boss. It assures that the necessary things get done on time when you have a plan. Have a place where you can work in your house or office in an organized and efficient manner without interruptions.

4. Create a to do list

Write a list on paper or in a notebook (I have a collection of them LOL) of what needs to be done the following day. This simple step will help you with organization. Do not make the lists so long that they are overwhelming.  As each task is finished, cross it off your list. Also, have a small notebook which you should have on you at all times to mark things down. Use a calendar for listing appointments, potential prospects to speak with, clients and referrals. Also, have it easily accessible.

5. Expect to hear No as an answer.

Remember that rejection is part of the business and will serve as the main challenge when you are prospecting for your clients and business builders. You should not take ‘no’s’ personally, the more ‘no’s’ you get the better you are doing because you are working your business.  The no’s will ultimately become a resounding ‘yes’ after ‘yes’ in time. You must stay patient. Every no that you receive gets you closer to a yes. Also remember that “no” does not necessarily mean “no.” Often a “no” is simply the person needs more time to think and they may be interested later (could be a year later) as they are just not ready now.

6. Never forget or be afraid of this key word – ASK

Ask for appointments, the sale and for referrals.  If you desire someone to host a party or an event then ask.  If you desire to close the sale, then ask are you ready to purchase what I have to offer you.  All someone can say is Yes or No.  If it is a yes, then smile you and you will know what to do.  If the response does turn out to be a no, then that’s ok. Simply move forward and continue to ask someone else. The more people you speak with the better you will do in the direct sales business. You must do income producing actions, yet it’s one of the hardest things to do in your business.

7. Be an Efficient Money Manager.

Being part of the direct sales company is an exciting business and can make you some great money. When you work your business consistently and put in the effort it can easily turn from part time to a full time income before you know it. Make sure to open a separate bank account and deposit all of your money from sales from clients into a checking account that you set up.  Your transactions are on the bank statement which is a great record of your business activity that can be verified by your canceled checks. Keep your record keeping simple, accurate and don’t fall behind. Also you should create spreadsheets that track your sales and business expenses while keeping your receipts. You also have the benefits of certain tax write offs (Speak to your accountant).

If you treat your direct sales business like you are a CEO in the corporate world you will be surprised how a second income gives you opportunities to do things that you were unable to do before. Freedom, flexibility, time with your family, and the ability to help other people is a gift that you will cherish for a lifetime.  Being debt free and accumulating savings for retirements are good long-term goals and can be easily achieved in the direct sales industry. If you like people, are you willing to be disciplined and put in time to learn how to be your own boss then you are ready to be a consultant in direct sales. Keep in mind the pointers I’ve listed above and there will be no stopping you as you build a team and create the secure flexible lifestyle that you were looking for. 6. What is the business experience of its officers and directors?

7.  How are the other franchisee in the company doing?

8. Does the company have an easy system to follow?

9. How much investment is necessary to get into the franchise? Whatever answer you get, know it will cost you more.

10 What is the cost that is necessary to pay for the continuing right to operate the business?

11. Are there any products or services you must buy from the franchisor?

12.How are the products and services supplied?

13. Who supplies the products?

14. What are the terms and conditions that the franchise relationship can be terminated?

15. What are the terms and conditions that the franchise relationship can be renewed?

16. How many franchisee’s have left the organization after purchasing?

After you have the answers to the questions above you will have a better understanding if the franchise is for you.  Talk to other owners, see if they are happy and enjoying their experience being an owner of the franchise. Being an effective networker you can get a new client, a new employee, make a friend, or even a business partner.  Networking can be life changing. It certainly was for me. The beginning of my transformation, all from an 8 minute conversation over the telephone that is still blossoming almost four years later.

Skills  necessary to be a successful networker

·  Have a positive attitude- Be uplifting and smile.
·  Be enthusiastic – Your energy will attract others to you
·  Do what you say you will do.- Be trustworthy
·  Be a good listener learn what you need to know about the other person

·  Network everywhere – network meeting doctors offices or at events- get your name in front of others
·  Say thank you- Show your gratitude. To clients business associates. BE the one who stand out from others
·  Help others – Listen for opportunities for you to offer your support
·  Be Sincere—if you aren’t genuinely interested in the person they will sense it.
·  Give your complete attention – look the individual in the eyes
· Follow up! If you don’t FOLLOW UP on your leads or referrals you have wasted your time networking.

You can be a successful networker, a master with practice. Some people learn quickly and others it takes more time.  If you listen more thank you talk, be patient, find out what the other person needs and have a good attitude you are well on you way to thriving as a networker.
