Guest Post: “Sunrises” A Personal Look by Braye Nicole
Every so often, someone enters your life and quietly leaves an impact that lasts for years. I was introduced to Braye Nicole through her incredible mother, Kimyon Zari, a brilliant creative force and dear colleague of mine. Kimyon radiated wisdom, strength, and grace—and it’s no surprise that Braye carries that same quiet power in her spirit and her artistry.
After Kimyon’s sudden passing a few years ago, Braye and I stayed in touch, and I’ve had the honor of watching her navigate both deep grief and remarkable growth. Braye has been making music for years, honing her craft and pouring her heart into her art. But it’s in recent months that she’s begun to share that art with the world, releasing songs that resonate deeply with listeners.
Her latest release, “Sunrises,” is not your typical song about hope or healing. It’s something much more raw, more honest. In Braye’s words:
“‘Sunrises’ is my open letter to grief. It was\ written months after the death of my mother, during one of the darkest times of my life. Creating music became my safe haven—a way to express what words couldn’t. The song isn’t about finding light in the darkness, but about accepting that some things can’t be changed. I realized that life isn’t just about the happy moments—it’s about how we move through the hard ones. It’s about learning to sit with the pain, face it, and still find a way forward. I hope this song helps someone else feel seen, like they have space to process whatever they’re going through.”
“Sunrises” is a raw exploration of what it means to navigate the darkest parts of life. Rather than offering a sense of triumph, it speaks to the reality of loss and the profound shift in perspective that comes with it. Through haunting melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Braye reflects on the emotional rollercoaster of grief, and her soulful vocals anchor the track—guiding listeners through the vulnerability and weight of the journey.

Braye’s recent releases offer an honest reflection of her journey. Her music doesn’t shy away from pain but invites listeners to sit with it and find their own space for healing.
Braye Nicole is a voice to watch. Her talent is undeniable, but it’s her courage to tell the truth that makes her shine. If you haven’t heard her yet, now is the time. I hope you’ll take a moment to listen, to share, and to follow along as her journey continues.
Braye Nicole is a rising singer-songwriter blending R&B, neo-soul, and a wide range of musical influences. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, and later rooted in Charlotte, North Carolina, Braye was raised in a musical household where early exposure to studio sessions and live performances helped shape her passion for storytelling through sound.
Drawing from jazz, blues, hip hop, and soul, her music explores emotional depth and vulnerability while staying grounded in groove and melody. After being featured on “Top Floor” by Hiway and Tech N9ne in 2021, Braye made her solo debut with “Grown” in 2024, an empowering anthem for women, followed by the introspective ballad “Vulnerable” and her most recent single, “Sunrises,” released in February 2025.
With her debut EP set to arrive later this year, Braye Nicole continues to push creative boundaries and connect with listeners through honest lyrics, genre-defying soundscapes, and undeniable soul.
