8 Ways to Motivate You to Achieve Your Goals

Are you in the flow, accomplishing what you want, engaging in what you love, and feeling good about it? Sometimes, with all of life’s demands, making our favorite hobbies or desired projects a priority can be challenging. It’s OK to choose what’s important to you and put the rest on the back burner for a later time.  I often do this myself. To achieve your goals, it’s important to create daily habits. When you set time aside for the tasks you want and need to complete, you’re setting yourself up for success, and it won’t take as much mental energy to achieve your goals.

One key to getting in the flow is to relax and be gentle with yourself. Believe you can achieve what you desire. There is a balance that has to be in place as well. Too much work can cause you to burn out. Therefore, you want to make time for fun too. It’s a matter of focusing and capitalizing on those moments when you find yourself in the flow and then permitting yourself to step back when your energy wains and you need to refuel.

By approaching any project or task relaxed, you gain an increased feeling of confidence and inner peace, enabling you to make the progress you desire. Stop getting caught up feeling fear, or wondering what someone might say. Doing so will cause you to become distracted and eventually begin the bad habit of misjudging yourself.

Another tip for you is to get into the habit of focusing on the journey and not the result when moving through the process of achieving your goals. Doing so will keep you from feeling the disappointment that comes with finally reaching the goal and maybe feeling disappointment because it wasn’t as satisfying as you thought. Simply stated, goals consist of a series of steps, and you are in charge of deciding what action to take next.

Simple ways to motivate yourself:

  1. Listen to what you are saying to yourself.
  2. Challenge your self-talk. Ask the question, is there evidence of what you are saying?
  3. Change your self-talk from negative to saying the opposite, a positive statement.
  4. Make a list of positive things about yourself.

Mastering how to enjoy the process instead of thinking about the result is challenging because you may put too much pressure on yourself, which results in lost time that you can’t gain back. If, on the other hand, you take each day for what it is as you move toward your goal, then you will enjoy a richer experience full of lessons and memories. I have found myself many times focused on the result that it stopped my progress for many weeks or even months.

However, now, reaching my goals has become much more manageable. I know where I’m headed, but I now make it a point to break things down into steps so I can grow from each step that brings me closer to my goals. In other words, I make it a point when I am working on a project to focus on the task at hand, let go of the outcome, and enjoy the process.

You, too, can do the same.  Choose one of the projects you have been thinking about doing or one you are working on now and decide you will let go of the outcome to enjoy the process.  It’s also important to note that after achieving your goal, wait before immediately moving on to something else. What you want to do instead is take the time to reflect on the triumphs and failures you experienced so you can learn from them and celebrate your success.

8 Ways to Motivate You to Achieve Your Goals

  1. Believe in yourself and your abilities.
  2. Start your day with positive thoughts.
  3. Take care of yourself by doing what relaxes you. Do more of what you love to do.
  4. Think about your favorite way you would like to spend the day. Take the time for yourself to do it. Schedule yourself a day on your calendar. For example, set aside time to have a spa day or buy yourself a gift you have long wanted.
  5. Be kind and gentle, and stop being hard on yourself.
  6. Go out of your comfort zone. Be brave and embrace your mistakes. The lessons learned are valuable because each one will help you realize your goal, and you will get better with practice.
  7. Don’t sweat the small stuff because, many times, what you are worried about will work itself out within a few days.
  8. Choose something each day that aligns with your goals and dreams. Don’t ever give up.

The best way to approach any new project is to break it down into small, easily manageable parts. Start with what you love first to get into the flow; this initial enthusiasm and inspiration will propel you forward. Be aware that as you progress, you may find yourself at a point where you feel like you are not moving forward. If this happens, remember your past success, which will help relax you so you will keep going. You can also stop and remind yourself of the progress you already have made within your project. Each of these actions keeps your momentum flowing. They work best if you are taking the lead by making simple modifications to what you are already doing. Be kind, not hard on yourself, and make your dreams a reality.

Stay on your path and trust the process. When you start with a clear plan that you put into action, you’ll be surprised how things start to fall into place. To make your wildest dreams come true, believe in yourself. Everything you need to succeed is already inside you. With dedication and diligence, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

I believe in you.

To your health, wealth, and happiness.
