Relax, Unwind, and Have Fun Away and Upon Return

Are you someone who is on the run all the time? Maybe you might be a little stressed and have many things on your mind where you feel you can never relax. What about when you get a chance to getaway?  Do you worry less and immediately relax, or does it take you a few days to truly unwind? My experience has varied. Sometimes I can be in the moment and relax, and then there are other times when it can take many days to find my flow. Years back, I didn’t rest until the end of my vacation and missed out on the beautiful experience. Thankfully I’ve changed my ways and now enjoy my vacation time to the fullest.

Time away with my family and friends is something I treasure. In July, we visited Aruba, our home away from home. The entire island is about 21miles long and is located in the southern part of the Caribbean Sea. We did everything necessary to be safe while traveling (all went smoothly) and stayed at the Casa Del Mar Resort; it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind. The island may be small, but it’s an ideal spot for us to take a break and have some fun.

Years ago, when taking time off, I would pack an extra suitcase full of work. I would take my stock market charts and would have my nightly numbers faxed every day I was away.  I was easily distracted and didn’t know how to relax fully.  Yes, I was enjoying fun in the sun, but the downside is that I was not fully engaged and often found myself returning from vacation needing another vacation (lol).

This trip was different in that relaxing came easy. Sometimes you need a bit of a reminder that it’s OK to unwind. Having learned from past experiences has helped me understand the importance of enjoying time away from the daily responsibilities of life at home.

One of the favorite things for my self-care during vacation was to attend the chair yoga class offered by the resort. My classes took place within a band of beautiful trees shared with a wonderful group of women. All I had to do was show up and let go. I had so much fun, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to do chair yoga with such dynamic women accompanied by soothing music for the soul, with Gladys M Duarte as our leader.

What is chair yoga? Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that benefits the body and mind and is done sitting on a chair or standing using a chair for support. Chair yoga is also a great way to meet people in a relaxing environment.

I find yoga gives me a renewed sense of peace and tranquility, a new source of calm in my life. I highly recommend yoga, especially if you struggle with stress, anxiety or find it difficult to relax. You will find that yoga is a low-impact exercise that will strengthen your body and calm your spirit.

Some Benefits of Chair Yoga:

  • Relax from head to toe, giving you a sense of peace as your mind relaxes.
  • A quick way to stretch your body to relieve tension and is healthier for you instead of reaching for food to comfort you.
  • It will increase your range of motion by opening your hips, moving your shoulders and neck, and feels so good.
  • It benefits the body because it increases blood circulation and stimulates the elimination of body toxins.
  • Chair yoga improves feet, toes, hand and finger movements, muscle, and bone health.
  • Improves your balance, posture, flexibility, and mobility.

If you find it’s challenging to let go when you’re on vacation, then you might benefit from embracing the idea that you can feel refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated when using it as an opportunity to commit to your well-being. If you have not taken yoga classes, you will be amazed at how enjoyable it is to try chair yoga, especially while on vacation.

Don’t stop taking care of yourself when you get home. Creating a balance between work and playtime helps keep life enjoyable. You want to be in the position that when you take time away from your business or corporate job, you enjoy your time away and avoid being stressed and worried.

All work and no play is an unhealthy approach to your well-being. Time away is beneficial for your total well-being. New insights, thoughts, and ideas happen when you take vacation time, and your spirit calms as your mind becomes clear. Time away also ignites your creativity, and before you know it, you are in an inspired flow that helps your mind focus easier and become more productive upon your return.

Incorporating a sense of well-being in your life does not have to be a daunting task.  Make sure to include some quiet time each day to relax and clear your mind. See if you can find a chair yoga class or another type of yoga class to take that is near you, or you do on Zoom. I love taking a weekly class of Kundalini Yoga with Pat Barone MCC., and I do my own yoga workout at home. You will not only widen your circle of friends, but you will also relax and find peace as you stretch and move your body. Overall an excellent decision that contributes to your quality of life and overall well-being.
