Simple Steps to Ignite Your Well-Being Now

Improving your well-being starts with a decision you want to make a healthy lifestyle a priority. You can begin with small steps making healthy food choices and taking better care of your body.   Simple changes in your daily rituals will make you feel better, calmer and will ultimately become more natural to you.

Developing good daily habits is a key to your success.  Being committed and dedicated to your well-being, choosing good nutrition, and moving your body starts the process. If you have the desire, you will get the ball rolling with some minor adjustments. Start with 5 minutes a day.  Adding exercise regularly will increase your endorphin level thereby increasing your energy helping you feel good.  As time goes on it’s a good idea to expand your workout to 20-30 minutes a day whenever possible. Establishing a routine of walking outside or a workout routine from your house or going to a gym are some options.

The biggest surprise from my well-being journey is how empowering exercise can be. Exercising regularly will get your energy flowing.   Many times, you will find it helpful to relieve stress as it did for me. I know exercising each day helps my body stay fit, helps me focus and gives me inner peace. It’s better than stressing out over some of the challenges of the day that might have occurred. When I first started to exercise, walking half a block outside was painful. With simple small steps, I developed a consistent routine on the exercise bike which has built up the strength in my legs and body.  I average about 6.5 miles a day in a 30-minute workout riding an exercise bike.  You can do the same, even if you have never exercised regularly. The key is to choose an exercise that you enjoy doing. By choosing what you like to do, you are more likely to do it.

My other favorite exercises are lifting weights and doing pushups.  These exercises have made me strong enough to be able to lift suitcases, dogfood and carry a case of water up the steps, instead of having to ask someone else to do it for me.  I never imagined the power of exercise when you do it consistently.   I also love the added feeling of inner strength that helps my focus.  I now look forward to exercising instead of feeling like it’s a burden and something that I have to do. The difference is I want to work out.

What about you? Do you have a favorite exercise? Is your fitness where you want it to be? Exercise is a great way to start feeling better about you and your life. Although it can sometimes be challenging at times to fit in and requires discipline like any other goal you may have, you will find exercise is worth it. Until you try a routine, you don’t know the incredible feeling you can have, and how your confidence begins to grow.  Don’t let yourself off the hook. Start now to establish rituals to improve your well-being.

Quick and easy tips to start on your daily ritual.

  • Get a notebook or a journal and write down specific goals with a date you will complete them. Each day spend time doing one small step towards the goal that you want to achieve.
  • Find an accountability partner. This could be a friend or hire a professional. You want someone you relate well to and trust.  Discuss what your goals are and talk about how you could help each other achieve them by sharing your experiences together. You can set up a specified time where you discuss what may be challenging you and brainstorm some possible solutions. You can share ideas about projects you are working on and share a few wins.

Create a daily ritual that challenges you but is doable. Each small change that you do, will make a difference. Be gentle and kind to yourself.  Sometimes you need a little extra to get inspired and feel more peaceful. It’s possible for you to immediately change your thoughts. You can do this by creating a few loving and kind power phrases that you say during the day using your name. Write them each day.  If you don’t have a journal or paper handy find a place where you can sit quietly without distraction and say a few power phrases that resonate with you. They only take a minute or two.  If you need some help, I’m here for you. Some examples of power phrases that I use that might work for you:

  • Bonnie, you are awesome.
  • Bonnie, great choice.
  • Bonnie, I’m proud of you.
  • Bonnie way to go.
  • Bonnie That’s an ok choice.

Sometimes you might slip up and you get into a funk.  Don’t beat yourself up.  If you make a choice that you weren’t happy with, try saying to yourself, I love you anyway.  It’s ok, next time will be different.

Some examples of being gentle to yourself:

  • Bonnie that wasn’t great but it’s ok.
  • Bonnie, I give myself permission this time.
  • Bonnie be gentle with yourself. You will get through this, you find a way.
  • Bonnie deep breath, think joy, and love.

Deciding to start a daily ritual will set you up for success. Being gentle on yourself goes a long way. Being perfect is impossible, it’s not what a lifestyle change is all about.  Creating change in your life allows you to grow and step through your challenges. Don’t allow your busy schedule to stop you from taking care of yourself.  See if you can find a minimum of 5 minutes a day to begin the process. You deserve to enjoy life and feel good. With a positive attitude, a winning mindset, and belief in yourself, you will be on a successful path improving your journey to well-being.
